Consumption ≠ Contentment
We are on a mission to make life sweeter for everyone by inspiring people to live better, so that together we can create a world that feels more like heaven for everyone. Please help us achieve our mission by sharing Our Newsletter with someone else. Thank you.
Clever companies have convinced us that consumption will cause or create contentment. We see it in almost every advertisement for any product. The underlying message is, “you’ll be happier if you use or have our product.”
But it’s a great lie. Contentment, fulfillment, joy… none of these can be purchased. There is no instant streaming or two-day shipping on them either. These things are often found in connection. connection with others and connection with the world around us.
No product, however well designed will fill the void or heal emotional pain. But true and real connection can and often will.
However, connection is something we’re losing in our digital age. We have traded connection for convenience and consumption, and we are beginning to see the consequences. As social creatures, connection is not merely a good idea, it is essential to our wellbeing. We cannot sever our connections with family, friends, community and country and then expect to feel okay. This is not possible.
We need more connection, not less. And the great beauty of connection is it’s free! It costs absolutely nothing to make connections with friends, coworkers and even the strangers we pass at the store. It doesn’t cost anything to connect with the world around you.
Connection won’t solve all our problems, but consumption solves absolutely none.
All the Best,
Matthew
